FALL INTO LOW LUNGE POSE MINI YOGA CHALLENGE

Happy fall everyBODY!

My Burning Bush is gorgeous this year and just begged me to pose in front of it. Soon, my pumpkins rolled into the picture, and with the sun beaming down upon us the beautiful peach-salmon colored yoga outfit I was wearing was left without color. Oh well! At least the Burning Bush was burning – and my thighs too! Low Lunge Pose is one of my favorite yoga poses. It really stretches our entire body and we will certainly feel an energy buzz. As an added bonus, if we keep looking up, we will tone our neck!

Arching our back in Low Lunge Pose will certainly fire up our core, stretch and strengthen our legs, get our hearts pumping, our circulation flowing, our lungs working, and stimulate the thyroid gland located in our neck for a metabolism boost. Add deep inhales with exhales that are a few counts longer, and we can also encourage our parasympathetic nervous system to kick in leaving us feeling great!

As we look up, we can also thank God for this beautiful time of year!

“This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

til next time…

…love and blessings for a beautiful day!

SPHINX POSE MINI YOGA CHALLENGE (quick total body refresher)

Hi Friends!

Today we’ll practice Sphinx Pose, right in the Port of Havana, Cuba!

Why not counteract all the sitting we do with a few moments of deep breathing in this pose? It will invigorate our bodies while soothing our nervous systems. This pose will strengthen and lengthen our backs, and expand our lung capacity. Putting light pressure on our stomachs stimulates our kidneys and digestive organs too!

  1. Lie face down with your arms at your sides.
  2. Press your pubic bone into the mat while rolling your outer thighs slightly towards the floor. Let your hips fall.
  3. Relieve tension by letting your tongue go limp. This loosens up the jaw, helping to bring the  parasympathetic nervous system online that tells our bodies to rest and restore.
  4. Hold the pose for 5-10 deep breaths. Add a few more each time you do this pose.
  5. To make it more challenging, you may inhale deeply and lift, then exhale deeply and lowerr to the starting position. Pause, and repeat the motion 5-10 times.

Thanks for doing yoga with me. I hope this gem of a yoga pose leaves you feeling refreshed and revived! As you go forth through your day I pray this for you:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.

INVISIBLE?

This picture says it all. It’s funny because it is just that: a picture. In real life, it hurts to feel invisible to other people. The worst part is, people probably don’t realize they are doing it to us. And if they do it, says more about them then it does us. Lately, it’s been happening to me a lot. For example, the other day I had a a ten minute in-depth discussion with my postman in the Post Office about golfing. You know the moment when you both discover you have a love for something. You walk away feeling like you have connected. Well, we talked up a storm that day; a week later I started the golf conversation, and it was like we never discussed a word about it before. Hopefully, the postman didn’t see my chin hang down the whole time he did my postage!

How about the “one-sided conversation”? You ask about their  lives, then they talk on and on about themselves?  How about the spell-bound look they give you when you ask them a question while they have been staring at their phone for the past 5 minutes?

Well, don’t lose hope. You are not invisible:

… for God sees and hears you…The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are attentive to their cry. Psalm 34:15

… for God is listening intimately and intently to you… God is able to hear us even when we are silent. Romans 8:26

… for God is ready to help you… Don’t panic I’m with you there’s no need to fear for I’m your God. I’ll give you strength and I’ll help you. I’ll hold you steady and keep a firm grip on you. Isaiah 41:10

… for God is thinking about you all the time… My thoughts toward you are countless as the sand on the seashore. Psalm 139:17

… for God thinks the world of you...even the hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows. Matthew 10:31

… for God made you a “one of a kind person”…You are a blessing! The Lord made you in an amazing and wonderful way. Psalm 139:14

… for God thinks your gorgeous…The King is enthralled with your beauty. Psalm 45:11

… for you must hold your head high, God gave you dignity…You have dignity. Proverbs 31:25

… for you can ask and you will get real answers…Call to me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things which you do not know. Jeremiah 33:3

…for you simply cannot be invisible if God is always with you…I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Matthew 28:20

…for how can you be invisible if you are constantly loved?…You are love forever. Romans 8:38-39

You may feel invisible to the world at times but to God, you are being loved moment by moment beyond measure! Gosh, I feel better now.  I hope you do too!

MOUNTAIN POSE AND MUSTARD SEED FAITH

Tadasana is Mountain Pose – Tada means “mountain” and asana means “pose”. Though Tadasana is a very basic pose, it physically challenges us to stand firm and strong, enabling us to establish a steady foundation from which many Yoga poses transition naturally. Tadasana improves posture, establishes good alignment, makes one aware of one’s body and develops feet, ankles, legs, back and core strength.

Striking a Mountain Pose reminds us that mountains are quite tall. In fact, Mount Everest, which is the tallest mountain in the world, stands at 29,029 feet. Get inspired because Almighty God encourages us that we can actually move a mountain!

In Matthew 17:20, Jesus states,

Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.

So, what is the size of a mustard seed? Wikipedia says it is usually 1-2 millimeters in diameter. There are 1,000 millimeters in a meter. We are talking miniscule. Teensy weensy! A mustard seed in comparison to a mountain is microscopic! Nevertheless, Jesus says the amount of faith needed to do great things, like move a mountain, is small!

As you stand in Praying Mountain Pose, think about what mountains that you need to move in your life. Then pray and have faith the size of a mustard seed that God will move them for you!

Directions For Tadasana:

Stand tall. Place your feet no wider than hip width. Let your toes and the bottoms of your feet be fully extended on your mat. Pull in your stomach. Roll your shoulders back and let your chest lift. Feel as if your torso is rising up through your waist, each vertebre gently falling into place. Squeeze your buttocks and try to pull them under your tailbone. Drop your shoulders. Lengthen your neck. Relax your face muscles. Place your hands in Prayer position and breathe deeply while you reflect upon the Bible verse. Feel tall, firm, and immoveable, with faith like the grain of a mustard seed!

Relax your body. Always remember the little mustard seed and what it can do!

Halleluyah!
